The Jesuit college in Nagyszombat played a prominent role in the Jesuits' presence in Hungary. In addition to the large grammar school, a university had also been operating in the city since 1635. In the spring of 2022 in Vienna , we organized a scientific conference entitled "Höhere Bildung in den Jesuitenschulen Mitteleuropas am Beispiel der Universität von Tyrnau / Education in Jesuit Schools in Central Europe: The Example of the University of Nagyszombat," the presentations of which, significantly supplemented and formed into scientific studies, can be read in this volume. The articles do not only deal with the University of Trnava and its grammar school, but also seek to embed the history of the institution in the development of the Austrian Jesuit province, looking for parallels within the Habsburg Monarchy. The volume contains eleven studies written in German and English by researchers from Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria.
