Our online service offers three different possibilities for our visitors:

  1. Research in the E-Archives requires payment and registration.
  2. The material digitized with the support of a state fund can be used for free, but after registration.
  3. Our E-Library is free of charge and requires no registration.

1. Research in the E-Archives

Access to most of our digitized archival material prepared for online research has a charge and needs registration. Researchers are advised to check the detailed register of our digitized documents before registration to find out whether the material they look for is available in our E-Archives. After consulting the list properly it can be decided if one wants to register for our electronic archives service for a charge. This will be presented for our registered users by an image viewer program.

If you want to use our E-Archives service, you have to register on our website first: please click on this link to do so. Registration allows unlimited access to the uploaded images within the subscribed registration period. There is, however, a restriction on the number of downloadable image files; it is indicated below how many images a researcher may download from the image viewer service on their computer when choosing from different registration options.

When you register, you have three options to choose from as follows:

  • 15 day insight browsing access (for short period data searches) – 15 downloadable images (jpg files) – HUF 2,500 registration fee
  • 3 month research access – 50 downloadable images (jpg files) – HUF 5,000 registration fee
  • One year (12 months) research access – 200 downloadable images (jpg files) – HUF 15,000 registration fee.

The registration fees shown above are due from 1st January 2017 and the 27% VAT is included. The online registration form will inform you about the possibilities of registration fee payment.

All three types of access apply to every digitized record published. In January 2017 this was app. 17,000 digital images, but their amount is growing constantly. The restricted quantity of downloadable images refers to the number of pictures to be selected by users for downloading as jpg files in order to save them on their personal computer.

Online research can be started after our confirmation of receiving the registration form and the payment of the registration fee. Processing your registration fee or receiving the financial statement from the bank may require some days; your patience is requested for this procedure. You can accelerate the registration process if you send us the copy of your fee payment receipt by e-mail, thus we do not have to wait for the accounting work of the bank that may take several days.

If you use any of our records in your work, always mark their reference code given in the E-Archives register. Before doing that, please, also consult the latest version of our register of fonds.

If you have any questions in connection with the E-Archives, do not hesitate to contact our Archives staff.

2. Section II

The digitization of the documents of the exile part of the Hungarian Province (Section II) from the years 1948–1957 (from the subfond JTMRL I.5.a., i.e. Archives of the (Vice-) Provincial Curia of Section II) was carried out with the subsidy of the National Cultural Fund of Hungary (NKA). The database is accessible and free of charge for all after free registration.

The database can be browsed by subseries as well as searched by name of author and recipient, or by year.

The archival reference code of a given record can be found both in the database and the filename of the digitized document. If you want to use any of these records in your work, always mark their reference code as well. Before doing that, please, also consult the latest version of our register of fonds.

A detailed list of the contents of this database can be found in the Register, while a short description of the history of Section II under the title ‘Historical Introduction’.

Please send us your comments on database use by e-mail to leveltar[at]jezsuita.hu.
